A QUARTERLY PUBLICATION OF ACCS
EDITORIAL

Saragur M. Srinidhi

It gives me immense pleasure to introduce Advanced Computing & Communications (ACC), a maiden technical publication from the Advanced Computing and Communications Society (ACCS).   This publication had been on the cards for a while as we actively ascertained the value proposition of such a publication in the sphere of Indian engineering schools and the practicing engineering community. Seeing an overwhelming requirement for a technical publication with the goals of ACC led us to launch this periodical.

ACCS had its origins in the Indian Transputers Users Group nearly three decades ago. ACCS has been involved, over the years, in a range of activities of interest to the engineering community with its quality conferences, workshops, seminars and short term courses to advance computing and communications pedagogy in the country.

The fast pace of research and development in computing and communications in recent years has placed a responsibility on the engineering fraternity to come out with a platform of the kind as ACC, to share with the new generation of students, faculty and practicing engineers, current technological progress and help finding technologically creative solutions.

In line with the vision of ACCS, this publication exposes academic and industry professionals to the state-of-art technologies, technical advances and current research trends by way of research papers and tutorials from eminent scientists and industry experts. In doing so, ACC attempts to bridge the industry academic gap by providing a spring board for creative engineers, faculty and students alike in propagating cutting-edge research and technologies in the field of computing and communications.

The arena of computing and communications is extremely broad and the interdependencies and complexities of large scale systems will continue to increase as we technologically advance. There is no doubt that the combination of computing and communications engineering with its blurred boundaries are rich in promise for the creation of newer technologies. While there are many technical journals that cater to deeper studies on any given topic, this quarterly publication will have a distinct flavor. Articles in the ACC do not expect significant prior knowledge on the part of a reader to understand. They provide a broad understanding of the subject matter and intend to kindle interest in readers to delve into the depths of the topic through other resources.

Engineering education in India in the coming years has an imperative to be in-line with the requirements of the industry and herein is our motivation for launching ACC.This inaugural issue carries review papers in the current areas of interest – IOT and Machine Learning and a primer on Residue Number Systems. A series on experiential learning in networking provides a hands-on approach to self learning through experimentation. More sections are planned in the future editions to address a much wider audience.

I trust that the readers find the contents of this publication informative and of significant value as they get into a more serious and deeper learning mode.
